Pirates Tag Giants with 3-0 Loss
|
Pittsburgh and San Francisco duked it out and the Pirates came out victorious.
Pittsburgh picked up a win at Presidio Park, toppling the San Francisco Giants, 3-0. Pitcher Bill Day was one of the reasons the Pirates triumphed. Day got the win, improving to 10-7. He allowed 5 hits and walked 0 over 7.1 innings. Day allowed no runs.
Pittsburgh used the bat of Jorge Medina to get the win. The catcher hammered a 2-run home run in the top of the second inning to put the Pirates ahead, 2-0. It was his lone hit in 4 at-bats, but it did its damage.
"Bill -- his tempo and rhythm were good," said Pirates manager Brandon Kirk. "He was the key to us winning."
The first-place Pirates, at 71-61, now lead their division by 3½ games.
