The Yankees grabbed a win, 3-2, at Mariner Ballpark, overcoming a fine effort from Seattle pitcher Jesús Torrez. Torrez went 6.1 innings and allowed 1 run. Robin King picked up the win in relief, improving his record to 9-6. Eitoku Kishita was tagged with the loss. The second-place Yankees have won 6 straight games.
New York used a clutch hit from Anthony Thomas to get the win. The pinch hitter drilled a 2-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to put the Yankees ahead, 3-2. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.
After the game, New York manager Mac Mckenzie applauded the team's effort. "They busted their humps out there," he said.
