Chicago Gets Another L, 10-1
|
The St. Louis Cardinals topped the Chicago Cubs by the score of 10-1, with the biggest share of the credit going to right fielder José Betancourt. Betancourt was 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 singles. He scored 2 times for the Cardinals on the day. Millard Valdéz, the winning pitcher, improved to 9-10. He pitched 6 innings, giving up 5 hits and 1 run, while striking out 4 and walking 2. Bob De La Rosa recorded the save, his 2nd.
The Cardinals got an important contribution from center fielder Steve Rivera, who in the bottom of the second punched a 2-1 fastball into right for a 3-run home run. It was his 28th home run of the season and put the Cardinals ahead, 5-0.
Chicago manager Will Harrison called the blowout loss "ugly."
The slumping Cubs have dropped 10 in a row.
