Flores Stars in 9-4 Reds Win
|
The first-place Cincinnati Reds took on the Oakland Athletics in front of a spirited crowd.
A good performance from center fielder Carlos Flores helped the Cincinnati Reds defeat the Oakland Athletics, 9-4. Flores went 3 for 4 with a home run and a double, while scoring 2 times and driving in 4 for the Reds. Ernesto Zavala got the save, the 13th for him this season.
Flores contributed a big hit, a grand slam home run, for Cincinnati in the bottom of the second. With his team trailing 1-0, Flores took a fastball from Clinton HOl and stroked the home run to left. His 21st home run of the season allowed the Reds to leap in front, 4-1.
"First place," said Reds manager Sean Bain. "This is right where we want to be."
The misery continues for the Athletics, which has now dropped 11 in a row.
