Nationals Get Hard-Earned Win, Stop Reds, 4-3
|
The Washington Nationals did just enough to secure a victory over the Cincinnati Reds, 4-3, at Nationals Park. Nobody did more than pitcher Henry Summers. Iván Hernández earned the win after being summoned from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed 1 run on 2 hits in 1.2 innings. His record is now 9-3. Washington has a 4-game win streak, while Cincinnati has lost 5 in a row.
Iemochi Sasaki, who is tied for 8th in the NL with a .376 on-base percentage, chipped in for Washington with a 2-run home run in the bottom of the eighth. For the game, the center fielder had 2 hits in 4 at-bats with 1 home run, 1 single, 1 run scored, and 2 RBI.
After the game, Washington manager Ryan Martin applauded the team's effort. "They busted their humps out there," he said.
