The rain did not keep New York and Milwaukee from finishing their game.
The New York Mets overcame a good performance by Milwaukee center fielder Santiago Romero to knock off Milwaukee, 7-4, at Citi Field. Romero went 2-3 with a home run and a walk, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2. The winner in relief was Steve Swift. He is now 2-1. The right-hander allowed 2 runs on 2 hits in 2.2 innings. Getting the save was Pablo Suárez, his 5th.
Had Gustavo Costello not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Costello hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 5-4, in favor of the Mets.
"We'll relax tonight and enjoy this win," said Costello.
New York, now 10-16, is off to a slow start.
