Pilkington Raps State College for 5 Hits Sunday, August 31st , 2070 It doesn't happen very often, but it did for Gary Pilkington today -- a 5-hit day. He went on a rampage and sparkled on the diamond at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park, but the performance lost a little luster when the Cyclones were downed 26-9 by the State College Spikes. After his glittering performance, the Brooklyn first baseman told the press that he "just tried to get myself in a good count and have a good at-bat." His batting theory paid dividends today as he slammed 5 hits in 6 tries and put his name in the record book. "I just wish we had added a win in the record book today, too," Pilkington said. Gary Pilkington hit a two-run home run off Fred Rutledge in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, hit an RBI single in the 6th, flied out in the 7th and singled in the 9th. This season Pilkington has banged out 190 hits in 498 at-bats for a .382 average with 32 home runs. He is getting on base at a .450 pace and his totals also include 125 RBIs and 90 runs scored. |
