Steeplejacks Smerdel May's Top Hurler

In May, the top-rated pitcher in the Northwest League was a reliever. It's not a common occurrence, but it does happen occasionally. The Twin Peaks Steeplejacks fine hurler, Leonhard Smerdel stood out so much that he was picked the best Pitcher of the Month by the Northwest League.
The Steeplejacks bullpen ace was brilliant with 1 save in 15 relief appearances, a 4-0 won-lost mark and 2.13 ERA. He worked 38 innings, allowed 35 hits, struck out 36 and walked 10.
So far this year Smerdel has been credited with 1 save, registered a 4.70 ERA and struck out 58 in 59.1 innings. He also has a 4-1 record.

Ramírez Takes NWL's Best Bat Trophy

Felipe Ramírez is not used to being associated with Batter of the Month-caliber players, but today the Boise center fielder joined that select company when the Northwest League announced the results of May's voting.
Ramírez totaled 50 hits, 18 walks, 7 home runs, 29 RBIs and 41 runs scored last month to put together a .463 batting average and .539 on-base percentage.
Ramírez is currently batting .418 with 7 home runs and 40 RBIs.
