Smashing Success: Varela Wallops 3 HR Saturday, July 26th , 2070 Luis Varela was sending souvenirs to the sun gods all game long in the 14-13 Elizabethton Twins triumph at Joe O'Brien Field today. The 20-year-old put on a show for fans, launching not one, not two, but three home runs into the stands and powering the Twins past the Cleghorn Foghorns. "One homer's good, two's great, three's out of sight," Varela told BNN reporters after the game. "I can't wait until next game. I really feel good at the plate." The center fielder went 3-for-4, rung up 6 RBIs and scored 4 runs on his record-setting day. Luis Varela struck out in the 2nd, hit a three-run home run off Jim Unknown in the 3rd, hit a two-run home run off Jim Unknown in the 4th, walked in the 6th, hit a solo-shot off Jim Unknown in the 8th and walked in the 9th. Varela on the season is hitting .255 with 7 home runs. His stats include 17 RBIs and 19 runs scored. |
