Phillies Edge Brewers, 4-3
|
The Philadelphia Phillies topped the Milwaukee Brewers by a score of 4-3. Leading the way was shortstop Royce Lewis. Lewis was 4-5 with a double and 3 singles. He scored 2 runs for the Phillies. Manny Diaz got credit for the win, improving to 1-0. He allowed no runs on no hits in 2 innings. Brian Villeneuve picked up the save for Philadelphia, his 4th of the year.
With Philadelphia leading 3-0 in the bottom of the fourth, Lewis hit a changeup from Mike Arnold for a run-scoring double. It was his 10th double of the season and put the Phillies ahead, 4-0.
"We had the game right there for the taking," said Milwaukee manager Louis Grimmelbein. "But we decided not to take it."
The win puts Philadelphia at 11-19.
