Indians 3-1 Winners Versus Tampa Bay
|
In a low-scoring affair between the Cleveland Indians and the Tampa Bay Rays, pitcher Steve Bates was the difference between victory and defeat. The Cleveland right-hander earned kudos in the 3-1 Indians win. In 6.1 innings, Bates surrendered 8 hits, while striking out 4 and walking 1. He allowed 1 run. Dai-lin Chang recorded the save for Cleveland, his 2nd of the season.
K.J. Harrison, who finished 3rd in the NL in doubles with 38 last year, chipped in a 2-run home run for Cleveland in the bottom of the first. For the game, the designated hitter had 2 hits in 4 at-bats with 1 home run, 1 single, 1 run scored, and 2 runs batted in.
"I'm just trying to make sure I'm focused for each and every pitch," said Bates.
The 4th-place Indians bumped their record to 21-31.
