Giants Rough Up Cardinals, 8-3
|
The San Francisco Giants trumped the St. Louis Cardinals, 8-3, at Cardinal's Nest. San Francisco left fielder Andrew Benintendi was terrific. He went 3 for 5 with 2 home runs, while scoring 3 and driving in 3. Javy Cordon was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 3 of 4 save opportunities. The Giants, at 55-36, lead by one game in their division.
With one out in the top of the first, Nelle Willemsen stroked a go-ahead run-scoring double. It was his 24th double of the season and put San Francisco in front, 1-0.
"I felt good up there," said Benintendi. "I saw the ball well."
