Cubs Down Giants, 5-2
|
The Chicago Cubs beat the San Francisco Giants, 5-2, at Wrigley Field. The win was due in part to first baseman Erik Benoit, who was 3-4 with a home run and a double, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2. David Janes was credited with the save, his 30th in 37 tries. The win for the Cubs lifted their record to 80-64.
The Cubs got a big at-bat from left fielder Jose Arguello. For the game, Arguello was 1 for 4 with a home run, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. In the bottom of the fourth, with runners on 2nd and 3rd, he stroked a 3-run home run. His 27th home run of the season gave Chicago a 4-2 lead.
"I thought we played a nice game," Arguello told the Chicago Observer. "Good pitching, timely hitting, it was all there."
