Marlins Suffer 9-2 Setback
|
The Miami Marlins got a superb performance from pitcher David Jacobson, but the St. Louis Cardinals still won the game, 9-2. Jacobson threw 6.0 innings allowing 2 runs. Reliever Joe Ferland picked up the win. His record improves to 1-0. Shigeyoshi Hiramoto took the loss. The Cardinals, now 4-2, have played some good baseball in the early going.
St. Louis used the timely hitting of David Witter to seize the win. The designated hitter stroked a 2-run single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Cardinals on top, 5-2. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"Nice win for us," said Witter. "Now we'll go after the next one."
