Cubs Bury Pirates, 15-1
|
The Chicago Cubs pounded the Pittsburgh Pirates, 15-1, at Wrigley Field. Chicago designated hitter Ronald Buckby had a solid game. He went 2-4 with 2 home runs and a walk, while scoring 3 runs and driving in 5 for the Cubs. Ernesto Estrada sewed up the save, his 1st. The loss drops the Pirates to 3-8.
With Chicago leading 1-0 in the bottom of the third, Buckby hit a fastball from Erik Trombley for a grand slam home run. It was his 5th home run of the season and put the Cubs ahead, 5-0.
Said Pittsburgh manager Wes Robinson: "We ran into a buzz saw."
