Cardinals Get One-Run Win at Philadelphia
|
The St. Louis Cardinals weathered an outstanding game by Philadelphia first baseman Bobby Siegel to topple the Phillies, 5-4. Siegel hit 2 home runs, while adding 3 RBI and scoring twice. The winner was Rich Whitt in relief. His record improves to 3-0. Kevin Gibson took the loss. The Cardinals, now 10-3, have been on fire in the early going.
Alan Mitchell, the 27-year old center fielder , had a direct impact on the outcome. Mitchell contributed a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the top of the fifth inning to put St. Louis up, 5-3.
"I just tried to see the ball and put a good swing on it," said Mitchell.
