Twins Go Down to Defeat, 8-5
|
The Cleveland Indians topped the Minnesota Twins by the score of 8-5, with the biggest share of the credit going to designated hitter Marty Murphy. Murphy went 1-2 with a home run and 2 walks. He scored 3 times and drove in 2 for the Indians on the day. Cleveland reliever Adam Langford got the win, raising his record to 1-1. Steve Jellison was tagged with the loss. The save was credited to Rich Fernandez, his 6th.
Randy Mitchell had a clutch at-bat with one out in the bottom of the sixth for the Indians. Coming up with runners on 2nd and 3rd and Cleveland trailing 4-3, he hit a 2-run single.
"We'll put that win in the can," said Mitchell, "and go after the next one."
Cleveland, now 15-9, has played well in the early going.
