Mountain Men Stop Whoppers, 7-5
|
The Montana Mountain Men topped the Orlando Whoppers, 7-5, in American Revolution League action at Montana. The standout performance belonged to Montana designated hitter and Vancouver, Canada, native Harry York. Dan Cross, who finished 5th in the ARL in saves with 37 in 2037, earned the save for Montana. By defeating Orlando, the third-place Mountain Men improved to 44-50.
Phil Whiffen went 1-3 with a hit by pitch for Montana. With one out and the game tied in the bottom of the seventh inning, Whiffen, who is on pace for 86 RBI this season, had a clutch at-bat. Facing Orlando hurler Andres Delgadillo, he got hit by a pitch, driving in 1 run to give the Mountain Men a 3-2 lead.
"This isn't football or hockey where you can overwhelm your opponents," Whiffen told the Montana Citizen. "Everyone gets 27 outs and we happened to make the most of them."
