Royals Rally Past Tigers for 1-0 Series Lead
|
The Kansas City Royals combined strong pitching and timely hitting to take Game 1 of the Wildcard Series, 2-1, in a walk-off win over the Detroit Tigers today.
The Royals got a solid day from starter José Martínez. The left-handed Martínez threw 6.0 innings of 2-hit ball in the win, which gave the Royals a 1-0 lead to start the best-of-3 series.
Brad Schoeneberger was the walk-off hero for Kansas City. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Royals center fielder hit a dramatic solo home run to send the teams home.
"Both teams played hard," said Kansas City manager Ryan Freemyer.
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City.
