Knickerbockers Claim 2-1 Win
|
The Knoxville Knickerbockers picked up a win at Gargoyles Ballpark, knocking off the Santa Monica House Hunters, 2-1. Starting pitcher Elroy Mason played a key role in the triumph. Kevin Powell earned the save for Knoxville, his 5th of the year. With the win, the Knickerbockers have a record of 8-11.
The House Hunters had been locked in a 0-0 tie with the Knickerbockers going into the bottom of the sixth inning. That changed quickly when the 20-year old first baseman Curt Rodgers came to the plate. Rodgers hit a run-scoring double on a 3-1 fastball from Santa Monica hurler Pete Ford. It was Rodgers's 3rd double of the year.
"Tough loss," said Santa Monica manager . "The kind that burns a little inside."
