Railroaders Beat Palominos, 5-4
|
The Palo Alto Palominos could not turn a fine performance from center fielder Dave Baker into a win. Instead, the Newport Railroaders prevailed, 5-4. Baker was 1-3 with a home run and a walk, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. Dave Huckle earned the win to go to 4-2. He allowed 4 runs on 6 hits, with 3 walks and 2 strikeouts in 5.2 innings of work. The Railroaders go to 20-27, putting them 5th in the Aarons League South Division.
Newport right fielder Jeff Sullivan contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the first. With two down, he hit a fastball to center field for a run-scoring single. It was his 7th hit of the season and put the Railroaders ahead, 4-0.
"Honestly, I'm not frustrated," said Palo Alto manager . "The effort was great."
