Mammoths Turn Away Orcas, 3-1
|
The rain came, as predicted, but the Montgomery Mammoths and Vancouver Orcas were able to complete their ballgame.
The Montgomery Mammoths racked up a win at Pandora Grounds, bumping off the Vancouver Orcas, 3-1. Randy Riddle, who started for Montgomery, pitched effectively for his team. Riddle, now 1-0, was the winner. In 7.1 innings, he gave up 12 hits, while striking out 7, walking 1, and allowing 1 run. Ken Haynes locked down his 3rd save.
Iván Gabriel had a big solo home run for the Mammoths in the bottom of the fourth inning. With Montgomery leading 1-0 and the bases empty, he got a fastball from César Pérez and swatted a home run to right. It was his 5th home run of the season, and more importantly, it put the Mammoths ahead, 2-0.
"I was hoping to make good contact," said Gabriel. "I wasn't trying to knock the snot out of it."
The win gives the Mammoths a record of 22-45.
