The Newport Railroaders licked the Haynesville River Cats, 6-4, in 16 innings. Mike Becker deserved much of the credit. The center fielder went 3-7 with a home run, a double, and a walk. He scored 2 runs and drove in 4 for the Railroaders. Dave Peterson was the winner in relief. His record is now 3-0. The losing pitcher was Jesús Jiménez.

Becker had a game-changing double in the top of the 16th. On a 0-2 fastball from Don Kenney, he banged a run-scoring double to left-center, giving the Railroaders a 5-4 lead. It was the 2nd double of the year for Becker.

Becker told a Newport News reporter that he felt "ecstatic" after the win.

The 5th-place River Cats dropped to 28-47.
