The San Juan Coquis beat the Stafford Drillers, 6-3, at Ghosts Ballpark. The win was due in part to second baseman Freddie Mitchell, who went 3-3 with a triple, a double, and a walk, while scoring 2. San Juan reliever Ron Bowman picked up the win, raising his record to 1-0. Ángelo Hernández was tagged with the loss. San Juan, now 30-8, holds down first place in the Cobbs League East Division.
The Coquis got a big at-bat from center fielder Pepe Rodríguez. For the game, Rodríguez was 1-4 with a double, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once. In the bottom of the second, with the bases loaded, he stroked a bases-clearing double. His 6th double of the season gave San Juan a 3-0 lead.
"Nice win for us," said Rodríguez. "Now we'll go after the next one."
