Riverton Grounds hosted a real pitchers' duel.
Behind an impressive start by Matthias Capponi, Ellensburg beat Modesto, 2-0. Capponi, the winner, moves to 4-1. He threw 6.1 innings of 3-hit ball, while fanning 5 and giving up 1 walk. Ángelo González earned save number 11 this season.
Ellensburg used the timely hitting of Rodrigo Flores to seize the win. The shortstop stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Tigers on top, 2-0. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"Matthias kept his poise and got the job done," said Ellensburg manager . "He was outstanding."
