Boston Offense Sputters in 10-0 Loss
|
The Boston Red Sox took it on the chin, losing, 10-0, to the Atlanta Braves. Jeff Turner, who finished 5th in the NL in innings pitched with 206.2 last year, pitched a strong game for Atlanta. Turner, the winner, moves to 3-1. He threw 6 innings of 3-hit ball, while fanning 5 and giving up 1 walk. Atlanta sits in last place in the National League East Division at 30-46.
Tomás Romano had a big 2-run double for the Braves in the top of the first inning. With Atlanta leading 2-0 and runners on 2nd and 3rd, he got a fastball from Curt Roberts, who is tied for 8th in the AL with a 1.13 WHIP, and swatted a double to center. It was his 4th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Braves ahead, 4-0.
Boston manager Lino Cannan called the blowout loss "ugly."
