O'Neil Blasts Blue Jackets, Apollos Take Game 2, 7-4
|
With third baseman Mike O'Neil leading the charge, the Charleston Apollos got a road win over the Cornwall Blue Jackets, 7-4, in Game 2 of the Round 1. O'Neil went 2-5 with a home run. He scored 2 runs and drove in 3 at Blue Jackets Ballpark to help Charleston force a 1-1 tie in the best-of-3 series.
Charleston used the timely hitting of Bob Murdock to seize the win. The left fielder stroked a 2-run single in the top of the seventh inning to put the Apollos on top, 5-2. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"Every team in baseball loses," Blue Jackets manager said. "We're in the playoffs and we still have the same guys that got us here. We'll bounce back."
Game 3 is scheduled for Tuesday at Summits Ballpark in Charleston.
