Yankees Cruise to Divisional Round with Sweep
|
It's a sweet sweep for the New York Yankees and they have won the Wildcard Round. The Montreal Expos were not able to keep pace with the Yankees and dropped the series in short order, losing, 3-2, in the deciding game.
"This wasn't really the effort we hoped for," said Montreal manager Pat Chillman.
It's now on to the Divisional Round for New York after their 2-0 series win.
Leading the way for the winners was first baseman Edgar Sánchez, who was named MVP. For the series, Sánchez hit .429 with a .500 on-base percentage. He had 1 home runs, drove in 1 RBI and scored 2 runs.
The Divisional Round matchups and schedule will be announced after the Wildcard Round finishes.
