Both teams had their opportunities, but in the end, the Tulane Green Wave got the win.
Tulane center fielder Tony Bush contributed significantly to his team's 4-2 win over the Ottawa Blitz. Bush went 2 for 4 with 1 run scored to lead the offensive attack for the Green Wave. Tulane reliever Ron Gages picked up the win to move to 1-1. Juan González suffered the loss. Chuck Martínez earned the save for Tulane, his 25th.
The result might have been different, had it not been for 30-year old second baseman Al Simpson. Simpson had a 2-run single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Green Wave ahead, 4-2. For the game, Simpson had 1 double and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
"I was hoping to make good contact," said Bush. "I wasn't trying to knock the snot out of it."
Tulane bumps their record to 60-61 with the win.
