Singapore and Willmington took Mother Nature's best shot and still managed to complete their ballgame.

Starting pitcher Orlando De La Cruz gave the Singapore Slings a rock-solid effort. The San Juan, Puerto Rico native helped his team defeat the Willmington Waves, 3-1, at Ballpark of Russell Springs. De La Cruz got the win, improving to 11-9. He gave up 4 hits and walked 3 over 7 innings. He allowed 1 run. Sammy Donaldson earned his 8th save in 9 chances.

Singapore used the timely hitting of Curt Ellis to seize the win. The pinch hitter stroked a 2-run single in the top of the seventh inning to put the Slings on top, 3-1. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.

"I felt good up there," said Ellis. "I saw the ball well."

With the win, the Slings improved to 71-57.
