Hillbillies 5-3 Victors Over Southlake
|
The Parkersburg Hillbillies picked up a win at Ft. Stewart Grounds, downing the Southlake Dragons, 5-3. On the mound for Parkersburg was right-hander Jim Hopkins, who played a pivotal role in the win. Hopkins, now 1-0, was the winner. In 8 innings, he gave up 7 hits, while striking out 5, walking 0, and allowing 2 runs. Bobby Frye earned the save, his 2nd, for the Hillbillies.
Jeff Jongejan came through for Parkersburg when he hit a run-scoring single in the top of the sixth. With the bases loaded, he hit a two-strike fastball to right field, staking his team to a 3-2 lead.
Hopkins called the win "what playing unselfish baseball looks like."
The loss drops the Dragons to 0-3.
