Gulls Knock Off Yakuza, 8-1
|
Ventura County pitcher Josh Long had a large part in his team subduing the Tokyo Yakuza, 8-1. The opposition could never mount much of a rally against the right-hander. The Gulls go to 58-59, putting them 5th in the Gehrigs League South Division.
Pancho Ramos had a big 3-run home run for the Gulls in the bottom of the fourth inning. With Ventura County leading 2-0 and runners on 2nd and 3rd, he sized up a fastball from 21-year old right-handed pitcher Nelson González and punished it. The result was his 5th home run of the season, which put the Gulls on top, 5-0.
"We didn't help ourselves, it's as simple as that," said losing manager .
