Beavers Hand Toronto 2-1 Loss
|
Doug Gibbs was on the winning side of a pitcher's duel at Multnomah Stadium. In fact, the Portland Beavers right-hander was instrumental in his team's 2-1 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays. Gibbs yielded 1 run over 6.1 innings to notch the win. He scattered 1 hit, walked 4, and struck out 6. His record improves to 4-2. Jeff Wilkerson got the save, the 9th for him this season.
The Beavers got a big at-bat from right fielder Arturo Valdéz. For the game, Valdéz was 1 for 4 with a home run, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. In the bottom of the first, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 7th home run of the season gave Portland a 2-0 lead.
"I had everything working," said Gibbs.
The Blue Jays fall to 11-19.
