Leon Campbell was a major contributor to the 7-6 Ventura County win over Lansing. The Gulls left fielder was 2 for 3 with a home run and a walk, while scoring 2 times and driving in 4. Joe Bowman, now 4-3, picked up the win in relief. He allowed 2 runs on 4 hits in 2.2 innings. The 5th-place Gulls are 66-70.

The decisive blow was delivered by Ronnie Allen in the bottom of the ninth when he hit a run-scoring double off 21-year old right-handed pitcher Clay Farnell to win the game for Ventura County. The home crowd went nuts.

"You come to the ballpark to do your job and that's what I did today," Allen told the Ventura County Citizen.
