Mountaineers Score Late to Nip Stampedes, 5-4
|
Ben Cox, who is tied for 3rd in the JL in RBI with 71, led Appalachian State to a win over Calgary. The final score was 5-4. The designated hitter collected 3 extra-base hits, including 2 triples and 1 double. He also delivered 2 RBI. Appalachian State reliever David Nieves picked up the win, upping his record to 2-2. Elijah Tucker took the loss. Mal Edwards converted his 35th save in 43 tries.
Appalachian State used the timely hitting of Shawn Pierre McDonald to seize the win. The left fielder stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Mountaineers on top, 5-4. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"If you want to be considered a good team, these are the kind of games you have to win," said Appalachian State manager .
The third-place Mountaineers now have a record of 74-60.
