Yard Goats Take Tight Tangle
|
The Hardford Yard Goats, despite a fine performance by Nederland pitcher Branden Fisher, grabbed a 2-1 win at Blue Huskies Stadium. Fisher allowed 1 run over 7 innings. Chris Parker picked up the win in relief, improving his record to 2-1. Johnny Ontiveros was tagged with the loss. With the victory, the Yard Goats upped their record to 33-28.
Who knows how it would've ended, had it not been for Rudy Baker? The 25-year old third baseman Baker stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the eighth inning to put Hardford up, 2-1. For the game, he was 3 for 4, including 1 double and 2 singles.
Hardford manager commended his team for delivering "maximum effort."
