Blaze Come Back Late to Top American Giants, 5-3
The Chicago American Giants got a superb performance from pitcher Chris Joseph, but the Bakersfield Blaze still won the game, 5-3. Joseph threw 6.0 innings of 3-hit ball. Joey Keller, now 8-3, picked up the win in relief. He allowed no runs on 2 hits in 1.2 innings. Romeo Porcaro was credited with the save for Bakersfield, his 31st of the season.

Bakersfield used a well-timed hit by Juan Matos to capture the win. The center fielder socked a 2-run double in the top of the fourth inning to put the Blaze ahead, 2-0. Though it was his only hit in 4 at-bats, it was important.

After the game, Bakersfield manager applauded the team's effort. "We put some good AB's together," he said.

Bakersfield, at 74-60, holds down second place in the Bonds League North Division.
