New Britain went toe-to-toe with San Juan before a winner was decided.

San Juan got a decent performance from pitcher Rodrigo Gómez, but it wasn't enough to beat the New Britain Rock Cats. New Britain won the Republic Grounds contest, 5-4. Gómez threw 7.0 innings allowing 4 runs for the losing team. New Britain reliever Ira Barber picked up the win, upping his record to 10-9. Jim Smith was saddled with the loss.

The game was at a stalemate until second baseman Ron Hutchinson came to bat in the top of the 11th. Facing San Juan pitcher Jim Smith, he hit a 3-1 fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting New Britain on top, 5-4.

"Right now, things are falling our way," said New Britain manager .

New Britain sits in 5th place in the Bonds League South Division at 72-63.
