The Stockton 209 did just enough to sneak past the Hollywood Stars, 4-3, at Stockton Field. Stockton pitcher Rich Jenkins, in particular, had a standout performance. Jorge Martínez, credited with the win, is now 2-2. He allowed no runs on 1 hit. Stockton raised its record to 77-48 with the win.
The clutch at-bat came in the bottom of the ninth inning, when Stockton pinch hitter Carl Yastrzemski, facing Shimei Kimura, had a run-scoring sacrifice fly. It gave the 209 the 4-3 win.
"You can't get too high when things go well, or too low when things go bad. Right now, I'm just happy we got the win," Jenkins told the Stockton Gazette.
