The California Seals took Carolina pitcher Ben Lee's best shot and still were able to claim a win at Sea Unicorns Ballpark. The final score had California getting past the Sea Unicorns, 4-3. Lee went 6.2 innings and allowed 1 run, striking out 10. The winner was California reliever Greg Gordon, now 1-0. The loser was Nolan Ryan. California sits at 4-7.
California used a clutch hit from Peter Brantley to get the win. The first baseman drilled a 3-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to put the Seals ahead, 4-3. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
Brantley said his team "played with determination."
