Meatballs Need Extra Innings to Top Athletics, 2-1
|
The San Francisco Meatballs had to overcome a fine performance from Philadelphia pitcher Jerry Bowen to grab a 2-1 win at 420 Park. Bowen allowed 1 run over 7.2 innings. San Francisco reliever Armando Martínez was the winner. His record is now 1-0. The losing pitcher was Bob Locker. Philadelphia, now 7-22, continues its tough start.
The Meatballs procured the win, in large part because of right fielder Jonathan Norton. In the bottom of the tenth, he produced the game-winning run-scoring single.
"We fed off the energy of the crowd at the end," Norton said.
