Meatballs Turn Back Chi-town, 7-5
|
Dave Concepcion made an impact in the 7-5 San Francisco win over Chi-town. Concepcion, who won the Prime Rook Award in 1970, went 3-4 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk, while scoring 2 times. Gene Bishop got the win, improving to 5-2. He pitched 6 innings, giving up 7 hits and 4 runs, while striking out 5 and walking 3. San Francisco now has a record of 33-17 with the win.
The Meatballs got a big hit from third baseman Dale Sledge. In the bottom of the fifth, Sledge pounded a bases-clearing double to left-center. His 3rd double of the season put the Meatballs ahead, 6-4.
In postgame comments to the San Francisco Today, Concepcion said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."
