Blue Jays Subdue Bronx, 2-1
|
The Toronto Blue Jays had to overcome a fine effort from Bronx pitcher Brian Young to grab a narrow 2-1 win at LemonHart Park. Young went 7.1 innings and allowed 2 runs. The winning pitcher was Pedro Martínez. He tossed 119 pitches over 7 innings, allowing 1 run on 9 hits. Steve Carlton got credit for the save for Toronto. It was his 12th of the year.
Steve Craig had a critical at-bat with two out in the top of the sixth for Toronto. He came through with a 2-run single to put Toronto in front, 2-1.
"I like the grit of this ballclub," Craig said.
After today's action, Toronto sits at 32-22; Bronx slips to 26-28.
