Baseball fans saw a good contest between the Ottawa Knights and Edmonton Trappers.
The Ottawa Knights took Edmonton pitcher Jeroen Verhoeven's best shot and still were able to claim a win at John Ducey Park. The final score had Ottawa getting past the Trappers, 3-2. Verhoeven went 8 innings and allowed 3 runs, striking out 11. Ricardo Padilla, the winning pitcher, improved to 8-6. He pitched 7 innings, giving up 6 hits and 2 runs, while striking out 9 and walking 0. Kyle Yeo earned the save for Ottawa, his 7th of the year.
Ottawa relied on the hitting of Dick Allen to pick up the win. The first baseman clubbed a 3-run home run in the top of the third inning to put the Knights on top, 3-0. For the game, Allen had 1 home run and 1 single in 3 at-bats.
"I felt we were ready to go," said Ottawa manager Román Martínez. "Our pregame was pretty good."
The victory puts Ottawa at 25-43.
