Blue Jays Fall Short, 2-1, at Carolina
|
In a low-scoring clash between Carolina and Toronto, pitcher Mattias Petraeus was a difference-maker. The left-hander earned accolades in the 2-1 win. Petraeus, now 5-7, was the winner. In 7 innings, he gave up 4 hits, while striking out 9, walking 2, and allowing 1 run. Forrest Jackson finished the game for Carolina and earned his 12th save.
The Blue Jays had been locked in a 1-1 tie with the Sea Unicorns going into the bottom of the fifth inning. That changed quickly when the 34-year old first baseman Ichiyo Nakamura came to the plate. Nakamura hit a run-scoring double on a 1-2 sinker from Toronto hurler Yeong-suk Park. It was Nakamura's 12th double of the year.
"If I go out there and help the team win, that's all you can do," said Petraeus.
Carolina, with the win, is 29-54.
