Toronto Shut Out, 10-0, By Athletics, Bowen
|
The Toronto Blue Jays were almost helpless today in their 10-0 loss to the Philadelphia Athletics and hurler Jerry Bowen. Bowen kept the Blue Jays confused all game, spinning a 3-hit shutout.
"Tip your hat to Bowen," Toronto manager Hollis Wright said in a postgame interview. "He kept us off balance all night."
The 23-year-old left-hander had 1 walk and 11 strikeouts in a strong performance.
"It just happened to be one of those games where even when I made mistakes, they either fouled them off or someone would make a fine defensive play," Bowen said. "It was just one of those games that things went my way."
For the season Bowen has logged 7 wins and 4 losses and struck out 158 batters in 137.2 innings while compiling a 2.42 ERA.
