Athletics Score Late, Stun Knights, 8-6
|
The Philadelphia Athletics dumped the Ottawa Knights, 8-6, in large part due to first baseman Graham Burch. On the day, Burch was 2-3 with a home run, a double, a walk, and was hit by a pitch. He scored 2 times and drove in 2 for the Athletics. José Martínez, credited with the save, is now 26 for 27 in save opportunities. The 9th-place Athletics improved to 52-63.
Philadelphia used the timely hitting of Chad Sanders to seize the win. The pinch hitter stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Athletics on top, 6-5. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.
Sanders described the clubhouse as "strangely calm" after the game.
