Hits Galore: Mitchell Drills 5 Hits
|
It was a hits blitz for Shawn Mitchell at Taft HS Grounds today.
The Taft HS Lynx center fielder tore into the Derby HS Phalanx for 5 hits in 5 at-bats, but it wasn't enough to win the game. The Phalanx swept past the Lynx 9-8 to ruin Mitchell's day.
"We weren't locating our pitches well," Taft HS manager Mathew Murphy explained after the game. "Once you get behind in the count, you have to make really good pitches, rather than pretty good pitches, and we weren't able to do that today. Getting 5 hits from Shawn was nice but it wasn't enough."
Shawn Mitchell hit a solo-shot off Cecil Wilson in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, hit an RBI single in the 6th and singled in the 8th.
Thus far in 1974 Mitchell is hitting .257 with 2 home runs, 3 RBIs, 10 runs scored and has compiled a .395 OBP.
