Cardinals Use Late Rally to Win 4th Straight
|
St. Louis and San Diego duked it out and the Cardinals came out victorious.
St. Louis right fielder Rusty Greer was a significant contributor in his team's 6-3 triumph over the San Diego Padres. He slugged 2 home runs for St. Louis. The winner was St. Louis reliever Bruce Ruffin, now 2-1. The loser was Jonathan Contreras. Jamie Walker earned the save, his 12th.
The game was at a stalemate until pinch hitter Allen Sigler came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing San Diego pitcher Jonathan Contreras, he hit a 0-1 cutter for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting St. Louis on top, 4-3.
"Winning is not something we take for granted," Greer said.
With the win, St. Louis raised its record to 31-28.
