Pirates Come Up Short at San Diego, 3-2
|
San Diego Padres starter Antonio Morales turned in a sterling performance against the Pittsburgh Pirates, leading his team to a slim 3-2 win. Bob Carlson collected his 20th save. With the win, San Diego goes to 33-39, while the Pirates fall to 25-47.
In the bottom of the sixth, San Diego first baseman John Jaha put his team on top. With one out and a runner on 2nd, he hit his 7th home run of the year. Pittsburgh pitcher Chris Brock served it up. Just like that, the Padres were ahead, 3-2.
"We squandered some opportunities," said Pittsburgh manager Jerm Beard.
